Pastor Cedric Benner
Rector

I was born and raised in a Christian home where my parents regularly went to church and participated in church life. They conscientiously taught me the Bible and tried to live and model the Christian life. When I was in 8th grade I came to trust in Christ as Lord and Savior through a series of conversations with Christian friends, reading through the Gospel of John, and the preaching ministry of Billy Graham. During my time in high school I occasionally taught Sunday School and small group Bible studies and really enjoyed the work of preparation as well as teaching God’s Word. I had an inward sense of God’s call to teach and preach God’s Word which was confirmed by God’s people.

I graduated from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee, in 1986 with a BA degree as a Bible major. From there I went on to Biblical Theological Seminary in Hatfield, Pennsylvania, and graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 1990. I was ordained as a minister of the Gospel in the Presbyterian Church in America and served as an associate pastor of Lansdale Presbyterian Church from 1992-1996. Next I received a call from St. Luke’s Reformed Episcopal Church in New Providence, New Jersey, to serve as its pastor. I served at St. Luke’s from 1997 to Easter Sunday 2008. I was the assistant pastor of Bishop Cummins from April 6, 2008-May 31, 2015.  I was called in July 24, 2015 to be the rector of Bishop Cummins Church.  I am committed to God and His Word and I have a desire to see God’s people grow in their faith in the Lord.

I have a wonderful wife, Sarah, and we are blessed to have three children: Bria, Devin, and Madison. I enjoy hiking and reading books in the genres of biography, U.S. history, and crime mystery.

Sarah Benner

Director of Outreach

Mrs. Sarah Benner is the wife of Rev. Cedric R. Benner. She is the mother of three, Bria – 24, Devin – 21, and Madison – 16. Raised in a family who loved God, Sarah attended Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Lansdale, PA, where she developed a love for liturgical worship. As a teen she moved to Lansdale Presbyterian Church where she says that she truly learned reformed theology. A few years after meeting and marrying Cedric, who was then the youth pastor at Lansdale Presbyterian, they came into the Reformed Episcopal Church at St. Luke’s in NJ, where Sarah felt that she could have both the liturgy she craved as well as the reformed theology she loved.

In 1991, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from Temple University in Philadelphia. Sarah taught both Kindergarten and fifth-grade at Phil-Mont Christian Academy in Philadelphia. She homeschooled her children before returning to teaching at St. Stephen’s Classical Christian Academy in Eldersburg, MD, as their fourth-grade teacher and Algebra teacher. Reading, knitting and singing are a few of her favorite past-times.
