God’s Creation

I love the different seasons. My favorite season of them all is autumn. I love to see the colors of the leaves in October, and I appreciate the temperature moderating from warmer to cooler temperatures.

Creation itself is a reminder that we did not bring it into being, but God did. Genesis 1:1 says,

“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”

When we look at the beauty of a sunset, the glorious colors of the falling leaves, the awesome view of the mountains, the power of water during a sudden rainstorm, we are reminded that God is Lord, and we are His creation. We recognize that we did not bring this world into existence nor do we maintain its existence.

While God is Lord and we are not, we are made in God’s image. As those who have been made in God’s image, we are responsible to believe in Him as our God; therefore to Him we will give an account. The apostle Paul tells us of this special responsibility that we have as image bearers of God. In Romans 1:20 it says this,

“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that we are without excuse.”

I am thankful that we have more than just the revelation of God in creation. For that message alone does not reveal the fuller message of God’s written Word. Creation tells us that God is real and that we are responsible to God. But the message of Holy Scripture reveals that our God sent His Son to save us from our sins, and He brings eternal life to all those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, His only Son. May we worship God in the beauty of His creation and in the wonder of His saving love for us in the Lord Jesus Christ.
